Global superstars BTS have done it again—this time by making K-pop history in the U.S. music market. On June 24, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) officially updated its Gold & Platinum database, awarding four new Platinum certifications to BTS and bringing their total to an unprecedented 13 Platinum records.
According to the RIAA’s metrics, Platinum status is awarded to singles or albums that surpass 1 million units in combined sales and streams within the United States. With the newest certifications going to “Run,” “Blood Sweat & Tears,” “DNA,” and “Fake Love,” BTS continues to dominate as the most certified K-pop act in RIAA history.
A Monumental Milestone in U.S. Music
This latest achievement cements BTS’s legacy as trailblazers of K-pop in the American music industry. The group had already received Platinum certifications for hits including:
- “MIC Drop”
- “Boy With Luv”
- “IDOL”
- “Butter”
And not just singles—albums such as “Love Yourself: Answer,” “Map of the Soul: 7,” and “BE” have also gone Platinum, further solidifying their influence beyond individual tracks.
In 2023, BTS became the first K-pop act to achieve 5× Platinum status with their all-English mega-hit “Dynamite”, representing over 5 million units sold—a feat still unmatched in the genre.
More Gold Certifications Add to Their Legacy
The RIAA also awarded Gold certifications (500,000+ units sold) to several other BTS tracks, including:
- “Save ME”
- “Spring Day”
- “ON”
- “Black Swan”
- “Permission to Dance”
These new recognitions illustrate the continued streaming power and sales dominance of BTS—even while the group is on a temporary hiatus due to military enlistments.
Setting the Bar for K-Pop Globally
With 13 Platinum and numerous Gold records now under their belt, BTS’s achievements go far beyond music—they symbolize the global rise of Korean pop culture, breaking barriers in markets that once seemed out of reach for non-English language acts.
Their growing list of RIAA-certified hits not only confirms their popularity but also redefines what global success looks like for Asian artists in the Western-dominated music industry.
As ARMY continues to stream and support their discography, these certifications are more than numbers—they are a testament to the enduring impact of BTS and the powerful connection they’ve built with fans worldwide.
