The iconic Pitch Perfect franchise is hitting a new high note—this time, in the world of K-pop.

On June 26, Variety confirmed that a new TV series titled Pitch Perfect: K-pop Idol is officially in development. The show is being produced by Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman’s Brownstone Productions, in collaboration with Universal Television.

This announcement comes as part of Brownstone’s newly signed first-look deal with Universal Television, marking a reunion with the studio that originally launched the Pitch Perfect phenomenon. The move is expected to breathe fresh energy into the musical comedy franchise while exploring the ever-evolving global influence of K-pop.

Written by acclaimed comedian and screenwriter Joel Kim Booster, Pitch Perfect: K-pop Idol will follow the unexpected journey of a struggling singer-songwriter who accidentally auditions for the first all-American K-pop group. What begins as a mistake soon turns her world upside down, blending heartfelt storytelling with sharp comedy and toe-tapping performances.

The new series expands the Pitch Perfect universe, following Peacock’s spin-off Bumper in Berlin starring Adam Devine. Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, and Jason Moore—the original director of Pitch Perfect—are all set to executive produce, ensuring continuity with the beloved franchise.

With the ever-rising popularity of K-pop on a global scale, Pitch Perfect: K-pop Idol promises to be a genre-bending celebration of music, identity, and the pursuit of stardom. Fans of both Pitch Perfect and K-pop have plenty to look forward to as this cross-cultural musical comedy begins its journey to the small screen.

Stay tuned for casting updates, behind-the-scenes sneak peeks, and more as Pitch Perfect: K-pop Idol comes to life.
